Hokusatsu, the Northern Kagoshima, is located in the Northwestern of Kagoshima prefecture. There are tourist spots like Izumi City where the migrating cranes gather. |

The Sogi-no-Taki waterfalls which are 120m wide are called "Oriental's Niagara". They are well-known for scenic beauty.
Jussoike Park is one of the popular camping sites. In Okujusso ravine, there are over 10 waterfalls. The ravine was selected as one of the 100 best forests in Japan.
The ruin of Sogi power plant is located under the dam 1.5 kilometers down the sogi-no-taki fall. Brick building plant was built with European style during the meiji period (1867-1912). After the establish of the tsuruda dam, the plant is under the water. Only the period from may to September, the European style building appears. Akune Oshima island which is about 4km around is located 2km west of Akune City. In island, over 100 wild deers live. The island was selected as one of the 88 beautiful beaches and the 100 best pine forests in Japan. During the summer, beach is crowded with many people. Getting there: About 8 min walk from JR Akune station to Akune shin-ko port. Take a ferry to Akune Oshima (10 min).
The lake imuta is 4 km around crater lake surrounded by 6 mountains. There are camp site, cycling road, boat and athletic facilities. The lakeside is known as one of the good beautiful cherry blossom locations in Kagoshima. Getting there: About 50 min drive from Kagoshima City. |
