Getting To KAGOSHIMA

From Kagoshima Airport to Kagoshima City
Airport Bus Airport Limousine buses are the most convenient way to get to the City. The buses travel between the Airport and Kagoshima city every 10 min from 05:50 until 21:00. You can take the buses bound for Kagoshima city at No.2 bus terminal in front of the airport entrance. The trip takes about 50 min from the airport to the City center. One-way adult ticket costs \1200. There are also airport buses for Kirishima, Sendai, Ookuchi, Kushikino, Chiran, Kaseda, Kanoya and Ibusuki.
Taxi Taxis from the airport to the center of Kagoshima cost around \10000.



By Train


On March 13th 2004, Bullet train Shinkansen Tsubame started its service between Kagoshima Chuo station and Shin-yatsushiro station! With Shinkansen Tsubame, the journey from Fukuoka to Kagoshima will be only 2 hours 10 min!

Trains (JR Kyushu: Japan Railway Kyushu) arrive from the North of Kagoshima and the rest of Kyushu Island. In Kagoshima City, there are 2 major stations; Kagoshima Chuo station and Kagoshima station. Biggest JR station in Kagoshima City is Kagoshima Chuo station which is a very modern red colored building which was renewed in 1997. Many buses including tour buses and trams stop at Kagoshima Chuo station. It is very convenient to start your trip around the city from the station. You can obtain Kagoshima maps, other brochures and other information on Kagoshima at the Tourism Information Center which is located on the 2nd floor of Kagoshima Chuo Station.

City Buses

There are 4 bus companies in Kagoshima: Shiei Bus (Kagoshima City bus), Kagoshima Kotsu Bus, Nangoku Kotsu Bus and JR bus. The majority of buses running throughout Kagoshima City are Shiei buses (City bus) which are operated by the City. The minimum adults fare is \180. One day travel cards (\600) which are also valid on the tram and City tour bus "Kagoshima City View", can be purchased in a bus or tourist office. The buses run from 06:00 to 22:30.

TRAIN & TRAM


Tram
A tram is the easiest and cheapest way of moving around down town. There are two tram lines in Kagoshima. One line is from Kagoshima station to Taniyama, and the other is from Kagoshima station to Korimoto via Kagoshima Chuo station There is a flat fee of \ 160 per ride. If you get a 1 day travel card (\600), you can get on and get off at any time. It is valid on the City bus and sightseeing round bus "Kagoshima City View". The trams run every day from 06:00 to 23:00.
How to get on a tram: Get on from back door and take a ticket near the door. When you get off, put your fare in the fare box next to the driver and get off from the front door.

Train
Traveling by train allows you to enjoy Kagoshima's town views and the beautiful coast line during your journey. Trains run throughout Kagoshima and the rest of Kyushu island. There are two principal train stations in Kagoshima City: Kagoshima Chuo station and Kagoshima station. Kagoshima Chuo station is the largest and most used train station. Tickets and schedules can be obtained at the stations.

Short Distance Ferry
Everyday many people who travel or live in Sakurjima and Osumi peninsula commute by ferry to Kagoshima City. To go to Mt. Sakurajima, you take a ferry from the Saikurajima Sanbashi Terminal near Kagoshima City Aquarium. Taking a ferry at sunset is the most gorgeous time to view the beautifuly tinted Sakurajima and the city lights. For Tarumizu in Osumi peninsula, take a ferry from Kamoike Port which is in the south of the city (about 20 min drive South of down town).

A voyage to the islands by ferry will take much longer than a plane but it's an excellent way to spend your time. Ferries for the islands depart from two ports: Kagoshima port and Kagoshima New Port
